In honor of Travis Shelton, Wayne Reaud and the Reaud Charitable Foundation established this West Texas Legal Legend scholarship.
 
Growing up on a cotton farm during the Great Depression and later serving in World War II, he developed resilience in the courtroom and empathy for his clients that defined his career. As an excellent trial lawyer, Travis's honesty and integrity gave him great credibility with judges and opposing counsel, and his clients were always well-represented. His integrity also served the lawyers of Texas well. As the first President of the State Bar from West Texas, Travis helped the Association weather one of the most critical times in its history. Travis was a lawyer's lawyer, and his professionalism, legal skill, and integrity left an enduring and positive legacy for all lawyers alike, especially those living and working in the West Texas he so dearly loved.
 
This scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding law students at Texas Tech University.
