The Beaumont Foundation of America established this scholarship in honor of Broadus Spivey (1936-2021). The J.T. and Margaret Talkington Foundation provided matching funds for this scholarship.

Broadus was a distinguished attorney passionate about taking on cases he believed in. He grew up in Goodnight, Texas, and earned his J.D. from the University of Texas in 1962. Throughout his 57-year career, he tried over 600 cases and handled more than 140 appeals. Broadus was board-certified in Personal Injury Trial Law and held leadership positions with the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, State Bar of Texas, and International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He was a community leader and a great trial lawyer, always ready to take on any case.

This scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding law students at Texas Tech University.
