Brigadier General Walter B. Huffman has received three degrees from Texas Tech University. He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1967 and his Masters of Education Degree in 1968. In August, 1968, Walt entered active duty and served as a Field Artillery officer for six years. During the time, he commanded firing batteries at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and in Vietnam, and served as Battalion Operations officer. In 1974 Walt was selected for the Funded Legal Education Program and attended the Texas Tech University School of Law. He graduated with the highest honors in 1977, serving as Editor-in-Chief if the Texas Tech Law Review. As a Judge Advocate, Walt has served in varied assignments including tours at Staff Judge Advocate, U.S. Central Command, in Tampa, Florida; and as Staff Judge Advocate, VII corps, serving in Stuttgart, Germany and in South West Asia during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He has also served as an Instructor at the Army's Staff Judge Advocate General's School in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Staff Judge Advocate, 2d Armored Division (Forward), Garlstadt, Germany; and the Chief of Army JAGC personnel in the Pentagon. Immediately prior to his current assignment as Assistant Judge Advocate General for Civil Law and Litigation, Walt served as Assistant Judge Advocate General of The Army for Military Law and Operations.
