Jim and Leah Finley Immigration Law Clinic

Hands-on experience. Real impact. Life-changing advocacy.

At the Texas Tech University School of Law, the Jim and Leah Finley Immigration Law Clinic gives students real-world experience representing clients in immigration and nationality law.

Under the supervision of Professor Daniel Caudillo, a former U.S. Immigration Judge, students handle real cases—interviewing clients, preparing legal documents, and advocating for those in need.

What We Do

Each semester, the clinic takes on a limited number of immigration cases that offer valuable learning opportunities and fit within our capacity.

Most referrals come through local nonprofit partners, but the clinic also welcomes direct requests.

Clinic students also take part in community outreach events, providing legal information to those in need.

About Jim and Leah Finley

The Immigration Law Clinic is made possible by a generous gift from Jim and Leah Finley.

Jim Finley earned his bachelor’s degree in 1983 and his J.D. in 1987 from Texas Tech. He served for 23 years as the City Attorney for Longview, Texas—the longest tenure in that role in the city’s history. Over his career, he advised five mayors and 25 city council members, earning respect for his leadership, service, and integrity.

Thanks to the Finleys’ support, law students are becoming skilled, compassionate advocates—and more people in our community are getting access to the legal help they need.
