Kayla Wimberley has been with the Career & Professional Development Office at Texas Tech Law since 2018. As the Assistant Dean, she provides one-on-one counseling to both students and alumnae, assisting in development of individualized strategies for career search and success. Each Fall, Kayla, with the Career & Professional Development team, conduct class-specific meetings to communicate opportunities in the year ahead. Throughout the year, the Careers team provides job acquisition training workshops for students as well as career choice panels, presentations, and networking events.

Kayla leads the employer relations function which connects employers to students and graduates. The efforts of the Career & Professional Development team to build relationships include outreach to many types of legal employers including law firms, government, judicial, and in-house organizations. Focused outreach is also made to uncover opportunities for graduates who desire a non-traditional use of their legal education. Specialized niche marketing efforts to include promotion of joint degrees, concentration programs, and highlighting geographic target markets and target practice areas via resume books, attending CLE events, and personal visits with employers. The Texas Tech Law Career & Professional Development Center offers employers friendly, convenient, and cost-efficient recruiting methods including job postings, Fall and Spring On-Campus Interview events, the latest video-technology facilities and resources, and resume book access.

Kayla received her Juris Doctor from Texas Tech Law in 2011 where she served on Volume II and Volume III (Executive Symposium Editor) of the Estate Planning and Community Property Law Journal. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas. Upon passing the Texas Bar Exam, Kayla practiced with the Matthew Harris Law Firm, focusing on family law, estate planning, probate and guardianship law. Kayla has served as the President of the Lubbock County Young Lawyers Association and has been awarded the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award from the Lubbock Area Bar Association. She was also awarded the John Crews Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in 2016. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Lubbock Area Bar Association.
