From Orientation to Graduation

TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW | JULY 3, 2026

When Mattie Greenamyre arrived for orientation, Troy was the third hand she shook that day.

During the welcome session, Dean Jack Wade Nowlin encouraged the incoming class to look around the room.

"Remember these faces," he told them. "Who knows—you may have just met your future spouse."

At the time, neither Mattie nor Troy imagined how true those words would become.

Friendship grew into love as they navigated the challenges of law school together, from classes and campus events to an engagement, a wedding, and, finally, their graduation this spring.

At commencement, Troy had the honor of hooding Mattie, bringing their Texas Tech Law journey full circle.

"It was an honor to have him hood me at our graduation ceremony," Mattie said. "Sharing that moment together was the perfect way to end our law school journey."

Looking back, Mattie says her favorite memories weren't just the milestones. They were the everyday moments spent studying, grabbing lunch between classes, and building friendships that will last a lifetime.

Today, Troy is preparing to begin his legal career after passing the February Texas Bar Exam, while Mattie prepares for the July administration.

Some of life's greatest journeys begin with a simple handshake. As Mattie and Troy begin the next chapter together, they'll always cherish the place where their journey began—Texas Tech Law.
