Hooding Ceremony Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to RSVP or take any action before the ceremony?

Yes. Graduates must confirm their information through the Tassel website using the link in the email with the subject line “May 2026 Commencement Ceremony RSVP.”

The deadline to make changes in Tassel is Friday, March 27, 2026. Information submitted by this deadline will be used to create the printed graduation program, so please review your details carefully.

Do I need tickets for the Hooding Ceremony?

No. Tickets are not required for graduates or guests. Seating is open and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Who may serve as a hooding professor or attorney?

Graduates may list up to two individuals to serve as Hooding Professors or Attorneys.

  • Anyone selected as a hooder must hold a J.D.
  • Please be sure to request permission from your chosen hooding professor or attorney before listing them in Tassel.

Do I need to get regalia for my hooding professor or attorney?

Yes. Students must purchase or rent regalia for their hooding professor or attorney unless the hooder is a full-time Texas Tech Law faculty member. Full-time faculty already have regalia.

Students are responsible for getting regalia for all other hooding professors or attorneys. Hooders may wear their own law school regalia, if they already have it.

Regalia for hooding professors or attorneys may be ordered through the Texas Tech Bookstore, either online or at a Hooding Fair held at the Law School. Orders ship directly to you before the ceremony and include a prepaid return shipping label for rental items.

Please note: When ordering regalia for your hooding professor or attorney, be sure to enter the correct conferring law school. Law hood colors vary by institution, and accurate information ensures your hooder receives the appropriate hood.

What is the dress code for the ceremony?

There is no specified dress code for guests.

Graduates are required to wear full regalia, including a cap, gown, and law hood.

How long is the ceremony? When can we make dinner reservations?

The Hooding Ceremony is expected to last approximately 1.5 hours, allowing time for dinner plans afterward.

Can guests take photos during the ceremony? Will professional photos or video be available?
