You do not need to be a music major to join an ensemble.

The Texas Tech University Symphony Orchestra, established in 1954, is a vibrant ensemble comprised of over 65 talented musicians, led by Maestro Lanfranco Marcelletti Jr. Presenting a minimum of seven major concerts or events annually, their repertoire spans from the 18th to the 21st centuries, showcasing a rich tapestry of musical expression. Collaboration lies at the heart of our mission, extending to partnerships with guest artists, the Texas Tech University Choirs, Opera Theatre program, TTU Mariachi Los Matadores, and the TTU Tango Orchestra, while also highlighting the exceptional abilities of our students and faculty as soloists. Additionally, we engage with local school district music programs, nurturing musical talent from an early age.

USO has shared the stage with esteemed artists such as mezzo-soprano Susan Graham (2019), jazz-guitarist Ted Ludwig, composer and electric guitarist D.J. Sparr (2018), and electric violinist Mark Wood (2016), among others.

Furthermore, USO has been honored to premiere remarkable compositions, including Peter Fisher's Piano Concerto (2019), featuring Daniel de Pino on piano, and Carol Wincenc's "Rising" for flute and orchestra reorchestrated score (2017) with Wincenc as the soloist, demonstrating our commitment to fostering new musical expressions and engaging audiences with fresh perspectives. Many of our members also hold prominent positions within the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and are sought-after participants in various regional orchestras.

USO can be enjoyed on streaming platforms worldwide through the MSR Classics label on the "Rise Above" trumpet solo album by Andrew Stetson.
