bachelor of arts music

The Bachelor of Arts degree with a music major provides students with fantastic opportunities to continue their musical endeavors while also participating in other minor areas outside the music discipline. Students in the past have combined music with cyber security, music with sociology, music with psychology, music with pre-med, or even music with pre-law requirements in order to “tailor make” meaningful studies in more than one discipline. There are even three Bachelor of Arts degree concentrations within the music major (e. g., Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Applied Arts, Bachelor of Arts degree in Mariachi, and Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Music). Students are required to enroll in four semesters of applied music lessons and five semesters of ensembles. These ensemble experiences include a wide variety of choices such as Goin’ Band from Raiderland, University Symphony Orchestra, Mariachi Ensemble, Matador Singers, etc.

Students interested in any of these concentrations within the Bachelor of Arts degree with a music major must audition and be accepted into the School of Music and the degree program. Please see the individual curriculums and audition requirements for further information.

Programs by specialization

In addition to the traditional Applied Arts track, the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree program offers concentrations in Mariachi and Commercial Music.  Each track provides students with specific opportunities for specialized instruction within the relevant track.
