School of Art Scholarship Endowments

The following are current endowment gifts given to the School of Art in support of student scholarships.

James Douglas Allison Painting Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2006 by Cheryl and James David Allison and friends and family of James Douglas Allison to provide scholarships to "an undergraduate and/or graduate student majoring in art with a focus in painting. Students who qualify must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater."

Art Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Established 1976 by the consolidation of various Art Department gifts and funds, including those made by Paul Hanna and Ethel Jane Beitler into one endowment (and revised in 1977) to provide scholarships to students who are "incoming freshmen through graduate students majoring in visual arts with a GPA of 3.0 in visual arts courses and [who have demonstrated] evidence of meritorious art work and/or academic achievements."

Rex & Bonnie Aycock – Medici Circle Master's in Art History Graduate Fellowship Endowment
Established in 2010 by the family of Rex Aycock in his memory with support from the Medici Circle "to provide scholarships for graduate students in the School of Art, pursuing the MA in Art History degree. Awards will be merit based for outstanding work, criteria to be established by the selection committee. Awardees will also have a 3.0 GPA or better in a 4.0 system. If there are no qualified graduate student candidates, the scholarship may be awarded to a qualified undergraduate students. Alternately, if no students are eligible, the funds may be held over to the following year."

Cheatham/Howze Drawing Scholarship Endowment
Established 2003 by Paul D. Hanna of Lubbock for the purpose of honoring former Art Department faculty members Frank Cheatham and Jim Howze by providing scholarships bearing their names "for undergraduate students who are art majors [classified as] sophomores, juniors, or transfer senior students without sufficient art hours, who have a minimum GPA of 2.0, and demonstrate proficient artistic skills through their portfolios."

The Amy & Scott Dadich Endowed Scholarship in Design Communications
Established in 2020 to "proved scholarship support in the Graphic Design program of the School of Art. Recipients should further the inclusion, diversity, and equity initiatives of the School of Art, with preference given to students from historically underrepresented populations."

Dave Dickey Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Established by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dickey through the Ex-Students Association as a memorial to their son David in support of (undergraduate or graduate) studio art majors with an emphasis in photography based on artistic talent and scholarship as demonstrated in a portfolio review.

Sybil and Richard Dickey Art Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2012 by the Dickeys through the Texas Tech Alumni Association, the endowment was made to support scholarships to students in the School of Art at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.

Tom H. Dieckow Painting Scholarship Endowment
Established 2006 by Helen Dieckow of Boerne, Texas in memory of her son to provide scholarships "to undergraduate and/or graduate students majoring in art with a focus on painting, preference going to a student who paints wildlife. Students who qualify must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater."

Rick Dingus – Medici Circle Graduate Fellowship Endowment
Established in 2016 by the friends and family of Rick Dingus in honor of his distinguished professional career and his many years of service as a faculty member of the School of Art. Proceeds from the endowment are "to provide a 3-year fellowship in the School of Art to an incoming MFA student in photography based on a review of applicant portfolios and CVs of exhibitions and accomplishments. The award is renewable each following year of the student's MFA studies in photography, as long as the student remains in fine academic standing (3.0 GPA or better in a 4.0 system) and shows appropriate progress toward completing the degree in a three-year period, the review to be conducted by the student's MFA Committee."

Stacy Elko – Medici Circle Memorial Scholarship Endowment in the School of Art
Established in 2022 by the family and friends of faculty member Stacy Elko to support School of Art undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Art with a concentration in Transmedia or Printmaking who are enrolled full-time and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

The Mrs. Linda S. and Dr. John M. Filippone, Jr. – Medici Circle Art Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2009 by the family and friends of Linda and John Filippone and in memory of John Filippone with matching funds for the Medici Circle "to provide scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Art seeking an art degree with specialization in either graphic design or studio art, with a preference given to jewelry design & metalsmithing studio art students . Awards will be merit based for outstanding work and criteria will be established by the selection committee. Awardees must have a 3.0 GPA or better."

Tina Fuentes Fellowship Endowment in Studio Art - Painting
Established in 2019 in honor of Professor Tina Fuentes upon her retirement from TTU School of Art for her 32 years of service during which she mentored many students, contributing to their success, and in addition, developed and continues to have a distinguished career as a professional artist. "The fellowship will be awarded to an incoming MFA student in Painting who intends to complete the MFA program in three consecutive years. The award will be based on merit, as reviewed by both the student's MFA Committee and MFA faculty with a preference for financial need, as evidenced by the FAFSA score. The award is renewable each following year of a student's MFA studies, as long as the student remains in fine academic standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA."

Geneva Griffin Regents Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2005 by Ms. Geneva Griffin with matching funding from the TTU Regents Scholarship Program to provide "scholarships for undergraduate or graduate students majoring in art with a 3.0 minimum GPA."

Paul D. Hanna Memorial – Medici Circle Endowed Scholarship for the Fine Arts
Established in 2015 by the family of Paul Hanna, with support from the Medici Circle, to provide scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Art, with first preference to graduate students. "

W. Reid Hastie Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Established in 1996 by family and friends of W. Reid Hastie, in his memory, to provide scholarships "to a qualified junior or senior level undergraduate student majoring in Art Education or to a graduate student pursuing the Master of Art Education degree or the Ph.D. in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Art."

Donna Howell-Sickles & John Sickles – Medici Circle Art Scholarship Endowment
Established by School of Art alumna Donna Howell-Sickles and her husband, John, in 2014, to provide "merit based scholarships that will benefit any junior level students within the School of Art, regardless of specialization, who has some level of focus on drawing. The recipient must also have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0."

Dr. E.N. & Fan Woodson Jones Memorial Art Graduate Fellowship Endowment
Established in 1992 by Mr & Mrs. Paul Hanna of Lubbock and Dr. & Mrs. M. Allen Jones of Corsicana in the memory of Dr. E.N. and Fan Woodson Jones to provide "graduate scholarships to MFA students. If there are surplus funds, then these funds may be awarded to undergraduate students majoring in Art."

Clarence E. Kincaid Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Established 1996 by Ms. Susan Kincaid of Lubbock, with additional support from family and friends of Clarence Kincaid, in his memory, to provide scholarships "to a qualified junior or senior level undergraduate student majoring in Art Education or to a graduate student pursuing the Master of Art Education degree or the Ph.D. in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Art."

E. Grey Lewis, Jr. Memorial – Medici Circle Art Graduate Fellowship Endowment
Established 2011 by the Medici Circle, Supporters of the School of Art, with family and friends of Grey Lewis (1933-2010), in his memory. Grey enjoyed and supported the arts in Lubbock throughout his days. Fellowship "awards [go] to School of Art graduate students, who are in academic good standing. Awards will be merit based for outstanding work, criteria to be established by the selection committee."

Ken Little - Medici Circle Studio Art Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2007 by Ken Little with matching funds from The Medici Circle-Supporters of the School of Art to generate scholarship funds to be "awarded to 'top' studio art undergraduate and/or graduate students with a minimum GPA of 3.0."

Bill Lockhart Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2007 by the friends of Dr. Bill Lockhart, founding director of the Art Department in 1967. "Scholarship(s) to be awarded by the department Scholarship Committee to an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in art with the intent of teaching on the K-12 or higher level. Students who qualify must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater."

Sue & John Lott Regents Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2005 by Sue and John Lott with matching funding from the TTU Regents Scholarship Program "to provide talent-based scholarships which will assist in attracting the brightest and most gifted [undergraduate or graduate] students to Texas Tech University."

Lubbock Advertising Federation Scholarship Endowment
Established 1998 by the Lubbock Advertising Federation "to provide scholarships to students majoring in design."

Eleanor E. Malouf Art Scholarship Fund
Established in 2017 with funds from the Estate of John B. Malouf and from gifts made in "Honor of John B. Malouf" to provide scholarships in the School of Art at the discretion of the School of Art Scholarship Committee.

Captain Paul E. Marion Art Scholarship Endowment
Established 2001 Raye Leigh and Jonathan Stone of College Station, Texas with the family of Paul Marion "to provide scholarships to students majoring in Art who have a minimum GPA of 2.5. First preference is for recipients to be students majoring in Art who are participating members in good standing of APO service organization, Army ROTC, or Kappa Sigma."

Medici Circle Art Scholarship in Ceramics Endowment
Established in 2014-2015 through the first Soup & Champagne Supper Fundraiser of the Medici Circle Board with generous donations of ceramic art from over 100 alumni and ceramics artist friends of the School of Art "to support scholarships for students enrolled in the School of Art at Texas Tech seeking an art degree with a specialization in ceramics. Awards will be merit based for outstanding work, also the student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 in a 4.0 system, criteria to be established by the selection committee."

Deborah Milosevich – Medici Circle Scholarship in Art Endowment
Established in 2015 by Deborah Milosevich, alumna and longtime instructor at School of Art, to provide scholarships with "First preference given to undergraduate students who are art majors and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate proficient artistic skills through their portfolio. Students must have financial need as determined by the Texas Tech University's Office of Student Financial Aid."

Terry Morrow – Medici Circle Art Graduate Fellowship Endowment
Established 2010 by family and friends of Terry Morrow to recognize his many years of service to School of Art. "The scholarship will be awarded to an incoming MFA candidate (any area) who intends to complete the MFA program in three consecutive years. If the student leaves the program the student would no longer be eligible for the scholarship. The initial awarding of the scholarship will be based on merit and financial need, as reviewed by the SOA MFA faculty. The award is renewable each following year of the student's MFA studies, as long as the student remains in fine academic standing (3.0 GPA or better in a 4.0 system) and shows appropriate progress toward completing the degree in a three-year period, the review to be conducted by both the student's MFA Committee and the SOA MFA faculty. The scholarship will be awarded at a minimum of $1,000 annually (split between fall and spring semesters) until the endowment grows and the award amount can be increased."

Real and Muff Musgrave – Medici Circle Art Scholarship Endowment
Established 2012 to provide a scholarship which "shall be awarded on a merit/needs basis to a student, in good academic standing (with at least a 3.0 GPA in a 4.0 system in art curriculum), who has completed two years in undergraduate work (any area) in the School of Art and has demonstrated high proficiency in drawing, as judged by the selection committee. The award shall be renewable for one year, so long as the student has maintained an overall academic standing of 3.0 GPA or higher in a 4.0 system for the preceding year. It is the intent of the principal benefactors that special consideration and encouragement be given to a third year art student with demonstrated drawing ability, who is pursuing a degree with the goal to derive the bulk of their income from the creation of their art. And that student shall have this support available for their final two years of undergraduate study."

Nancy Naumann Memorial Art Graduate Fellowship Endowment
Established 2011 by Julie and Steven Glaser of Columbus, Ohio, in memory of Nancy Nauman, an alumna of the printmaking program who was an extraordinary artist with a wide range of interests. Creativity was central to her being and the journey was everything. Her indomitable life force permeated her art. The endowment supports "scholarship awards to graduate studio art majors in academic good standing who embody the spirit and ideals of Nancy Naumann. Awards will be merit based for outstanding work."

Charles M. Pijan Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Established in 1990 by Herbert James Pijan, in memory of his son, to provide scholarships "annually awarded to one or more undergraduate students in the Department of Art at Texas Tech University. The recipient or recipients of the scholarship(s) shall be selected ... on the basis of need for financial assistance as the primary factor and scholastic ability."

Roméo Reyna Memorial Art Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2017 to benefit undergraduate students majoring in Studio Art. Students must have a minimun GPA of 2.5 and show financial need, as determined by the TTU Financial Aid Office.

Thomas 'Curry' Roberts - Regents Art Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2006 by Mr. & Mrs. Randall Roberts and friends of Curry Roberts, with matching funding from the TTU Regents Scholarship Program, to provide scholarships to "deserving undergraduate and/or graduate students majoring in art. Students who qualify must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater."

Paul T. & Delilah Roch Scholarship Endowment
Established 1993 by Delilah Roch, in memory of her late husband, of Lubbock to provide scholarships "for all level students with a GPA of 2.0 or higher majoring in Sculpture and Painting in the Department of Art. Awards based on portfolio review, scholarship, statement of need and letter of recommendation."

The Willie and Eve Tate Family - James E. LaMunyon Chancellor's Council Scholarship
Established in 2006 by the Col. Willie Tate family, with matching funding from the Chancellor's Council James E. LaMunyon fund, to provide "scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in art history with at least a 3.0 GPA. Each year the School of Art Scholarship Committee will select a scholarship recipient based on merit."

Verda Mae Fuller Todd Arts Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2003 by K. Chris Todd of Falls Church, Virginia "to provide undergraduate scholarships to students majoring in the visual arts in the School of Art. Student must have financial need as determined by Texas Tech University's Office of Student Financial Aid. First preference is given to an undergraduate student majoring in painting or sculpting. Second preference is for any undergraduate student seeking a major in the School of Art."

Virgie Wyvell Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2015 by friends of Virgie Wyvell to support scholarships in the School of Art to "full-time juniors or seniors enrolled in the School of Art who have financial need and are committed to their arts degree program. Preference will be given to students who are working part-time while attending school."

Ann Zwiacher Art Scholarship Endowment
Established in 2016 by John Zwiacher in honor of Ann Zwiacher to provide scholarships to "current or new students in the School of Art with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and who attended a high school within 75 miles of Lubbock."
