Flower Power - Wind Turbine Blade Contest
ART 2310 Art, Environment, Sustainability students designed blades for the 2025 Flower Power Wind Turbine Blade Contest. For the design process this year, Professor Carol Flueckiger had her students work in groups and use data graphics to inspire the blade designs.
The class was fortunate to have a guest Sound Artist, Dr. Liz Gre, from University of Southampton, UK. Dr. Gre, had student groups translate one minute of sound of wind into a digital graphic. The students used the graphic of the sound of wind to inspire their designs. The recording data portion just happened to land on a day when Lubbock was experiencing high wind weather - the big Friday, March 14, 2025 Wind Storm in Lubbock. There were six designs presented during the Lubbock Arts Festival for the vote and they were all good. Interestingly, the popular vote at Lubbock Arts Festival voted for the design most closely related to the wind graphic. Dr. Hayhoe and Dr. Sharma, the 2025 Flower Power Awardees loved this concept and design process when visiting with students during the Award event at the Lubbock Arts Festival.
