J.D./M.S.A. (Accounting/Taxation)
The School of Law, in collaboration with the Graduate School, offers a dual degree program that enables students to earn both the Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) and the Master of Science in Accounting – Taxation (M.S.A.) degrees in three to four years.
This program is particularly beneficial for students interested in specializing in tax law, as it allows for the completion of both degrees with fewer total credit hours than if pursued separately. Up to 12 hours of approved law coursework may count as elective credit toward the M.S.A. degree, and up to 12 hours of approved M.S.A. coursework may count toward the J.D. degree. These transfers apply to credit hours only; grades earned in graduate courses do not affect a students Law School GPA or class rank.
Students must declare their intent to pursue the dual degree no later than their fourth semester in law school. The first year of study consists entirely of the required first-year law curriculum. In the second and third years, students complete remaining law requirements alongside selected electives and graduate accounting coursework.
Students may enroll in the Graduate School prior to beginning law school to complete any required leveling courses and take up to 12 approved credit hours toward the M.S.A. degree. Only designated courses may be taken during this time. Students who complete more than 12 approved M.S.A. credit hours (excluding leveling coursework) before matriculating into the School of Law are not eligible for the dual degree program.
Admission to the program requires acceptance by both the School of Law and the Graduate School. The Graduate School accepts the LSAT in place of the GRE or GMAT for admission purposes.
