Doug is a highly accomplished attorney in the energy sector. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held partner positions at renowned regional, national, and international law firms, assuming the role of managing partner at two prestigious firms in Houston. Additionally, he served as the co-head of the international energy practice group at one of these firms for an extended period.

He recently established the Houston office of Egan Nelson, LLP, a boutique law firm focused on private equity, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, and now, energy law.

Doug's involvement with the Law School extends beyond his professional achievements. He joined the Texas Tech Law School Foundation Board of Trustees in 2005 and has been leading the Development Committee since its inception in 2015. In recognition of his outstanding career, he received a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2020.

Doug and his wife, Roni, have been incredibly generous in supporting various Law School initiatives and establishing the Douglas C. and Veronica O. Atnipp Scholarship Endowment. Their commitment to the school is further exemplified by including the Law School in their estate plans.

Grateful for his Tech Law education, Doug and Roni acknowledge its profound impact on their personal lives. It has allowed Doug to cultivate a fulfilling family life and actively participate in the various activities of their four children and three grandchildren.
