TTU Classes

Program Membership

Students in the TTU String Project are participants in one of the following categories:

Youth

1st-year students:
- Youth in the first-year classes are typically in the 4th or 5th grade.
- Classes include instruction on like-instruments (violin, viola, cello double bass, and harp).
- Each student receives one private lesson during the semester. Students/Parents may choose to pay for and receive an additional 2 private lessons per semester for a total of 3 private lessons per semester.
2nd-year Orchestra students:
- Youth in the second-year classes have completed a FULL year of 1st-year instruction in the TTU String Project.
- Classes include instruction on like-instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp) and instruction as a string ensemble (all students performing together).
- Each student receives one private lesson during the semester. Students/Parents may choose to pay for and receive an additional 2 private lessons per semester for a total of 3 private lessons per semester.

New youth students enter the program in the Fall.

Adult

Beginner Adult students:
- Adults of all ages from the Lubbock area can also learn to play a string instrument!
- Classes include instruction on like-instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp).
- Each student receives one private lesson during the semester. Students may choose to pay for and receive an additional 2 private lessons per semester for a total of 3 private lessons per semester.
Continuing Adult Orchestra students:
- Students in the Continuing Adult classes have completed a full year of instruction in the Beginner Adult Classes.
- Classes include instruction on like-instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp) and in combined orchestra.
- Each student receives one private lesson during the semester. Students may choose to pay for and receive an additional 2 private lessons per semester for a total of 3 private lessons per semester.

New adult students enter the program in the Spring.

TTU Class Meetings

Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the School of Music on the Texas Tech University campus (2624 18th Street—18th and Boston Ave.) during the Fall (September to November) and Spring (February to April) semesters.

4:30-5:10 p.m.
- 1st year Youth Violin
- 1st year Youth Viola
- 1st year Youth Cello
- 1st year Youth Harp
5:15-5:55 p.m.
- 2nd year Youth Orchestra
- 1st year Youth Violin
- 1st year Youth Viola
- 1st year Youth Cello
- 1st year Youth Double Bass

Tuesdays only:

5:15-6:40 p.m.
- Level 3 Continuing Youth Vernacular Music Ensemble
6:00-7:20 p.m.
- Continuing Adult Orchestra
- Beginner Adult Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Harp

Student Registration Fees

$170.00 (or $120.00 for free/reduced lunch eligible youth students) per semester.

Tuition Includes:

Group Class Instruction (2 times per week on Tuesday and Thursday, each class is 40 minutes)
Private Lesson Instruction (3 per semester, 30 minutes each)
Texas Tech University String Project t-shirt (fall semester only)
Handouts and Materials from class instructors

FULL TUITION PAYMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED by the first class meeting.

Pay Tuition by Credit Card at the TTUSP Online Store

You can also pay by cash or check (made out to "Texas Tech") when you arrive for the first class. There will be a $20.00 LATE FEE if payment is not received by this class start date.
