Andrew W. Martin
Andrew W. Martin is Professor of Studio Art (painting and drawing) in the School of Art at Texas Tech University. He taught part-time at Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo in Ohio before joining the TTU faculty in 1995. Since then, Martin has taught regularly in the drawing, foundations, and painting areas, chaired 23 graduate student thesis committees and served on over 50 others, and been awarded two faculty development leaves. He coordinated the Master of Fine Arts program for the School of Art from 2003 to 2009 and was Associate Director of the School from 2009 to 2012, when he became an Associate Academic Dean for the College of Visual & Performing Arts. Martin led the College of Visual & Performing Arts as Interim Dean from August 2015 through August 2016 and continued serving as Senior Associate Academic Dean through July of 2020. In professional service, he currently leads visiting evaluator teams for institutions seeking accreditation or renewal of accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
Martin holds the Master of Fine Art degree in studio art with emphasis in painting from the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art, magna cum laude, from the University of New Mexico. As a studio artist, he has had commercial gallery representation in Sacramento, California; Toledo, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio; and San Antonio, Texas. His drawings, paintings, mixed media constructions and collaborative works have been displayed in fourteen solo exhibitions and received seventeen awards in over 110 juried and invitational exhibitions across the United States. His work is held in public and private collections in Albuquerque, Sacramento, Columbus, and Gimpo-si (South Korea), and several cities in Texas, including Lubbock, Dallas, Houston, and McAllen.
