Airport Pick Up

Texas Tech and the Lubbock community would like to welcome you to your new home away from home. West Texas is known for "Strong Hospitality" and we would like to show you what that means from your first moments.

Texas Tech has partnered with TTU and Lubbock community members who have volunteered their time to offer to pick you up upon arriving in Lubbock.

How do I sign up for Airport Pick-Up?

Please read the following carefully before registering:

How early should I book my flight?: The earliest that new F-1 and J-1 students should enter the United States is 30 days prior to the start dates listed on the I-20 or DS-2019. This is an immigration limitation and cannot be changed. If you are admitted for the Spring semester, we recommend that you arrive in Lubbock no later than the day before International Student Orientation. However, if you can we recommend arriving with enough time to get settled, over come jet lag and familiarize yourself with campus.

5 days notice: All students needing a ride from the airport must complete Transportation Request Form 5-business days prior to your anticipated arrival date to Lubbock. Planning and scheduling is needed to organize the many pick ups we run during this time, which requires adequate planning time. We cannot make any guarantees that we will be able to provide you with a pick-up if your request is submitted less than 5 days before your arrival.

Address Required: You need to be able to provide us with an address to drop you at before making your pick-up request. If you are arriving before your dorm or apartment move in date we recommend booking a hotel or Airbnb in advance as costs can rise closer to the start of the semester.

Flight Changes: Should any changes be made to your flight plans after you fill out this form, PLEASE let us know of these changes as soon as possible (by emailing beth.mora@ttu.edu with the subject line "changes to airport pickup needs"). This allows us to serve you best as well as create a positive experience for our volunteers who are picking you up on behalf of the Office of International Affairs.

Airport Pick-up Days: Airport Pick-up will only be offered from August 12th - 18th (No exceptions). If you are needing a pick-up before or after these dates we recommend the use of the many Lubbock Taxi services, Lyft or Uber. We WILL NOT offer any pick-up services before or after the dates listed above.

What if my flight gets in REALLY late? Can I still use this service? Yes! We understand that with no direct international flights to Lubbock there is a chance that your flight may arrive late at night. When you fill out the Pick-up form below you will be asked what time your flight will arrive. Please be sure to indicate the time you will arrive for example (11:00pm) and we will ensure someone will be there to pick you up. As long as you sign up at least 5 days before you arrive for airport pick-up we are happy to accommodate you.

This service is made available only to new students arriving to Lubbock for the first time and who are in need of assistance traveling to TTU or their accommodation.

NOTE for NEW volunteers: There will be a volunteer training for NEW pickup volunteers as it's important that we meet you, and are able to share some of the finer technical details so as to minimize problems for you all as volunteers, guarantee our students have a positive experience AND get you any needed physical materials to hand off to students. This will take place at the TTU International Culture Center on TBD.

Keep these dates in mind when booking flights. Be sure to give yourself time to settle in and overcome jet-lag as well.

Dorm Move in Date: Begins August 15th -18th-. More info
Undergraduate and J1 International Student Orientation: August 19th. All Undergraduate F1 students and a J1's (both Graduate and Undergrads) are required to attend Visit page here
International Graduate Student Orientation: Graduate student will receive email information to their TTU emails about how to attend the virtual orientation. (J1 Students will need to attend the Orientation with J1 undergrads on the 8th of January)
