Annual Events in Lubbock
Below is a list of annual community events that take place off-campus in Lubbock. We hope that you will take advantage of your time in Lubbock and attend these event as part of your cultural experience.

February Events:
Lubbock-Con is Lubbock biggest fan based event! There is so much to see and do for gamers, anime lovers, comic enthusiasts, cos-players, nerds, geeks and people who are just children at heart! This two-day event consists of adult and child costume contests, celebrity guests, tons of vendors, video game arcade, board game demos, panels, kids area and much, much more! There are also many departments from Texas Tech who sponsor the event and even guest speakers!
April Events:
Rodeo is a great way to experience Texas culture. Established as the official state sport in 1997, Rodeo is a big part of what makes Texas, Texas! The ABC Rodeo draws spectators from all over to cheer on professional riders who try to stay in the saddle of bucking bulls. You can also enjoy calf roping, rodeo clowns, and much more! Grab your cowboy hat and check out the rodeo! International Student Life takes group to the ABC Rodeo each April, however if you are unable to attend with us we still encourage you to go with a group fo friends!
Admission: Prices vary. Tickets must be bought in-person at local Western Stores in Lubbock or at the ticket window at the Rodeo.

This large art festival is a great time for all ages! The festival boasts over 150 booths, live performances, art demos, a children's art area, and live music. This is a great way to spend the day, enjoying local and national art.

July:
4th on Broadway - Celebrate our independence Day from the British by attending the Lubbock 4th of July Parade and Festival. Activities include a parade, fishing tournament, Catfish and Cobbler eating contest, Kids Area, Day long music stage, evening concert, food trucks and evening firework show. So grad your red, hite and blude outfit and join the community for the celebration!

August:
Celebrate equality and love by attending LubbockPride! Enjoy live music, Food, a drag story hour, vendors and an evening Drag Show! All are welcome to attend, and enjoy a variety of events throughout the day.
Admission - Ages 13 and up $1, Children under 12 are Free with a paid adult

September:
Free stuff is always great, especially when it promotes literacy in children and that's just what this event does! Free comic book day is celebrated on National Comic Book day, and is a time where fans, collectors, artists and even people who are just curious gather at local comic stores to meet and take home some comics. The event works to encourage people of all ages to read more and to give comics a try as they are a staple of American culture.

Lubbock is famous for it's music. It is also home to the late, great, Buddy Holly. Come out and grab a slice of birthday cake while enjoying live musical performances. Children can enjoy arts and crafts.

National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration:
Haven't had a chance to see a cowboy yet? Well don't fret! The National Cowboy Symposium is the place to be to experience Western heritage. You can experience storytellers, poetry readings, Native American dancers, and live music. This is also a unique way to experience western style food! The Chuckwagon Cook-Off takes place throughout the event, and allows visitors to try meals cooked on chuck wagons. With several vendors selling western inspired art and good, you can't miss this unique festival! Tickets can be purchased on Thier website.

The South Plains Fair is one of the biggest events of the year! There are 8 days of carnival rides, games, street food, live shows, petting zoo, vendors and contests to enjoy! The fair typically runs at the end of September. There are also agriculture contests during this week. Stop into the live stock barns to watch the horse riding competition, and look at the prize winning crops and animals.

Fall Arts and Crafts Festival:
"This event, which has traditionally attracted 3,000 - 4,000 visitors, is family-oriented and features more than 80 vendors selling handmade craft items and fine art. Fall Festival features live entertainment, art demonstrations, concession booths and Kids Korner!"

The Corn maze is a must for the Fall! The Maze opens on Sept 12th and runs until November 7th. Built on a working farm, the corn maze is a work of art with a new design created every year in the corn field. However there is a lot more to do than just get lost in the huge maze! Enjoy the petting zoo, horse rides, corn cannon and the café! Hop on the tractor pulled hay ride into the fields to pick your own fall pumpkins, or wait until dusk and ride through pumpkin hollow to view the talented jack o'lantern carvings! Bonfire pit rentals are available for $40.00. Grab some friends and sit around your ready built fire, and be sure to bring marshmallows to roast!

October:
If you like to get scared then Lubbock's Nightmare on 19th is the best way to spend your Halloween night! Running every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October, Lubbock's scariest attraction is not for the feint of heart. Hold your friends close and you creep through 4 different haunted houses, each with a different theme. The theme can change each year, so check the website to see what you can expect!
