Admission: Free

10/11/24, 6 pm: A Bold Peace - watch the trailer

A Bold Peace is the second of three films on the theme of “Authoritarianism in Internationalbold peace Cinema,” building on the key premise of the humanities that stories can trigger productive intellectual and emotional responses that engage the public effectively. The first was Invictus, which we watched with Mandela Washington Fellows engaged in leadership training at TTU. The current film documents Costa Rica's approach to improving quality of life by developing educational and social welfare programs since demilitarizing in 1948. The philosophy: the strongest defense is to be defenseless. The impact has been significant on education, healthcare, and other social initiatives. The film will be introduced by Guillermo Barquero of Costa Rica, a Fulbrighter who worked with Costa Rican President Dr. Oscar Arias (Peace Nobel Prize) featured in the film.
