Check-In for New Arrivals (SUMMER 2025)

What is Check-In?

All newly admitted F-1 students must complete the mandatory Check-In to maintain their visa status. Check-In is designed to verify your F-1 status and documentation upon arrival in the US.

If you are an initial or transfer student arriving at TTU for the first time, you will need to complete the Check-In Process to maintain your F-1 visa status. Failure to check in may lead to the termination of your F-1 visa status, so be sure to complete it as soon as you arrive in the US!

The Check-In Process is NOT an in-person or virtual appointment.

Students must be in the US and have a Lubbock address to complete the Check-In Process!!!

How to Check-in

To begin, please follow the PowerPoint Guide here:

Check-In Summer 2025 PPT Slideshow PNG

If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please reach out to your assigned International Student Advisor.

After Completing Check-In

After submitting your immigration documents in your ISSS Student Portal, you will receive an email receipt stating that you have completed the check-in process. You will also receive a new "Continued Attendance" I-20 in your ISSS Student Portal within 3 business days, which you will use as your current I-20.

Keep a lookout in your TTU email for any additional inquiries your International Student Advisor may ask you about your check-in documents.

Your Assigned International Advisor

TTU’s International Student Advisors (also called DSOs) are assigned to students according to the first letter of your last name (surname) on your passport. If you have any inquiries about Check-In, enrollment, or other F-1 visa inquiries, please find your international advisor below:

Ruby Oku (Last names: A – C), ruby.oku@ttu.edu

Hisatoshi Fujino (Last names: D – J), hisatoshi.fujino@ttu.edu

Allison Reimer (Last names: K – M), allison.reimer@ttu.edu

Gabrielle Colón (Last Names: N – R), gabcolon@ttu.edu

Ashley Anderson (Last names: S – Z), ashley.jenn.anderson@ttu.edu

Check-In Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1) How do I login to the new ISSS Student Portal?

Login to the new ISSS Student Portal here using your TTU username and password. This is the same information you would use to login to your TTU eRaider account.

If you have trouble logging in, please contact our office at oia.isss@ttu.edu

2) Who is my assigned international advisor?

TTU’s international student advisors (also called DSOs) are assigned according to the first letter of your last name (surname) on your passport.

In the US, your last name is your family name or "surname". This name is often passed down by your father. In some countries, this name might be placed first instead of last, but in the US, a surname will always be placed at the end.

For example: Tom Cruise

If Tom Cruise was an F-1 student at TTU, his international advisor would be Ruby, because Ruby works with students whose surnames begin with A, B and C.

3) What if I have multiple family names?

If you have more than one last name (surname/family name), you will use the first letter of your surname as seen in your passport.

For example: Tom Cruise-Maverick

Cruise-Maverick is listed as his surname in his passport. Because the surname starts with "C" in "Cruise-Maverick," his international advisor would be Ruby, because she works with students whose last names begin with A, B and C.

4) What documents do I need to upload for Check-In?

You will need to upload a digital copy of the following documents:

Optional:
  • Job Offer / Assistantship Letter (for those who are applying for SSN)
  • F-2 Dependent Passport, Visa & I-94 (for those who are bringing spouse/children under F-2 status)
*Note: All documents must be in JPEG or PDF format.

5) What is an I-94?

An I-94 is an arrival/departure record issued to those who are admitted to the US. An I-94 record can be retrieved on the Department of Homeland Security's Website here. Please select "Get Most Recent I-94."

Your I-94 should show your first name and surname as seen in your passport with the correct spelling. It should also show "F-1 D/S" on it. If there are any errors on your I-94, please contact your international student advisor for assistance.

6) What should I use as my address?

Please use the address where you are currently residing for your TTU program. It should include:

Street Name, Apartment Number, City, State, Zip Code
If you are staying in a student dorm, please include the room number and bedspace (A, B, C, or D)

If your address is temporary, please remember to provide your new, permanent address to your international student advisor when you've relocated. This is required by F-1 visa regulations.

OFF-CAMPUS EXAMPLE:

For a student living off-campus in an apartment, the address may look like:

Heritage Apartments
3114 4th St
Apartment #102
Lubbock, TX
79415

ON-CAMPUS EXAMPLE:

For a student living on-campus in the Murdough dorms in room 34, bedspace A, the address will be:

34A Murdough - TTU
Lubbock, TX
79406-0011

You can also use this TTU Student Housing generator to learn what your address is.

7) My file is too large to upload for check-in. What do I do?

The ISSS Student Portal system will not allow uploads with file sizes larger than 1.5 MB. If you can't upload your file due to file size, you can compress it using online compression generators, such as this one.

Please make sure you upload files in your ISSS Student Portal that are 1.5 MB or smaller.
