Distinguished Alum of Texas Tech Amy Laney has been hard at work making sure that students of Lubbock ISD experience theatre no matter the obstacle. I recently had the chance to discuss moving to an online environment with theatre and how her relationship with Tech is developing in uncertain times.
This semester, Lydia McBee Reed successfully defended her master’s thesis, culminating in a performance of her one-woman show "Wolf Moon," a campfire ghost story that examines the line between humanity and the wild.
I recently spoke with two dance faculty members about their transition to online education. Dr. Ali Duffy is an Associate Professor of Dance and an administrator in the new MA in Dance. Kyla Olson is an Assistant Professor of Practice and also serves as the faculty advisor for Dancers with Soul (a hip-hop dance student organization) and University Dance Company (dancers who perform in faculty/guest artist works featured in DanceTech).
Recently, I made contact (technologically, not physically) with a few of our undergrads here in the TTU School of Theatre and Dance, offering a handful of questions for their perusal: senior Theatre Major Ethan Beam, sophomore BFA Acting Major Keandra Hunt, and junior transfer student Colin Thomas. Together we lamented what was lost, shared what we had left, and looked forward to a future that looks something like a combination of AMC’s The Walking Dead and a George Orwell nightmare.
