IBC Policies
Institutional Biosafety Committees (IBCs) are the cornerstone of institutional oversight of research that involves recombinant and/or synthetic nucleic acid molecules and often oversee the use of other biohazardous agents. The Texas Tech IBC functions to ensure that instructional and research activities conducted at Texas Tech University comply with our federally mandated responsibilities and obligations, as outlined by current government requirements and recommendations for biological materials. The policies below facilitate administration of the responsibilities of the institution, the IBC and principal investigators.
If you have questions about IBC procedures or policies or to request a copy of unlinked policies, please contact the IBC office by email to ibc.ehs@ttu.edu. Policies 01 and 02 are provided as they address management of Dual Use Research of Concern and Pathogens with Enhanced Pandemic Potential as well as compliance with the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules.
To formally request clarification of or deviation from an IBC Policy or biosafety practice, please follow the procedure outlined in IBC Policy 06 below.
