Walking down the long rows of pens at any animal shelter reveals a veritable smorgasbord of canine variety. Big dogs. Little dogs. Outgoing dogs. Shy dogs. Hyper dogs. Calm dogs. Happy dogs. Sad dogs.
The Texas South Plains produces about 30 percent of the nation's cotton, 15 percent of the livestock and most of those products depend on the groundwater below us. And while the South Plains isn't failing yet as a whole, human activities continue to deplete water resources faster than they can rejuvenate.
In the final competitions before the national championships later in November, the Texas Tech University Meat Judging Team and Livestock Judging Team had strong showings in competitions held this past weekend.
The Texas Tech University Meat Judging Team earned its second title of the fall season with a victory at the Elanco Animal Health American Royal Meat Judging Contest on Sunday in Omaha, Nebraska.
